About Dutchess County Legislator Francena Amparo
Francena Amparo is a passionate community activist and civil servant. She was elected to the Dutchess County Legislature in 2011. Since then, Francena is proud to represent her community and has gone on to become the Assistant Minority Leader in 2016.
Francena is a fierce champion of equality who was raised in the Bronx where she became interested in politics at a young age. She was always captivated by the idea that the powers of government can be harnessed for good to improve life for everyone. Francena settled in Wappingers Falls in 2006 and enjoys being a civically engaged homeowner. She ably and proudly serves as President of the Board of Managers for her homeowners association.
Ms. Amparo is also a seasoned professional with a track record of integrity and commitment. Francena has two decades of experience in the legal field. Ms. Amparo participates in trial and deposition preparation at Kaplan Fox & Kilsheimer LLP where her responsibility also includes marketing and financial management.
Years ago, after the loss of her younger brother to suicide, Francena made a commitment to herself for the sake of her family and others, to get more involved in the political process. The painful loss of her brother’s life confirmed to her that the systems in place to help people were failing, and that much work was needed to be done to save others from the pain her family experienced.
Francena prides herself in using her elected office to represent her constituents and to fulfill her commitment to improving the lives of others through direct outreach, education and advocacy. Some of her favorite projects are those where she gets to interact with the community in a spirit of service, such as the wellness fairs, blood drives, and back-to-school fairs. Francena is also an active member of the New York Democratic Lawyers Council; the National Association of Latino Elected Officials; Local Progress; the Wappingers Historical Society; and Friends of Grinnell Library.
